Question 3D

Question 3D would simplify Longmont City Council elections so that in one election, all ward councilmembers are elected, and in the next, all at-large councilmembers are elected, instead of a mix of both kinds of seats in each election. This way, everyone in Longmont would vote in the same kind of Council election at the same time.

It would also allow for Longmont’s three at-large councilmembers to be elected on the same ranked ballot using multi-winner RCV. Multi-winner RCV is a gold standard voting method for democracy and voting rights experts because it produces reliably representative governing bodies, maximizes the electoral strength of voters of color, and prevents gerrymandering.

Here is a quick explainer of Longmont City Council election cycles and Question 3D!
